These arms are composed of a shield containing the central triskele and red flag of the Isle of Man , topped by the British crown , framed by a peregrine falcon on the left and a raven on the right, all based on the motto of the archipelago in Latin inscribed on a ribbon: Quocunque Jeceris Stabit.

The presence of a peregrine falcon back to the fifteenth century : in 1405 , the King of England Henry IV gives the archipelago to Sir John Stanley on condition he pay tribute to him and every future king of England Day crown by providing two peregrine falcons. The descendants of Sir John Stanley ruled the archipelago for 360 years under the title " Lord of Man "until King George III does not recover the title in 1765 but the present form of two hawks lasted until coronation of George IV in 1822.

The raven is itself an animal superstitions and many place names refer to it. The raven is also a legacy of the presence Viking on the island because according to the Norse god Odin is accompanied by two ravens. A longship Viking, operated by a crew of Norwegian and Manx while traveling between Norway and the Isle of Man in 1979 , bears the name of Odin's raven.

The British crown refers to the sovereign of the United Kingdom who is also lord of Man.

The motto Quocunque Jeceris Stabit associated with the Isle of Man since 1300 , is written in Latin and means literally "Wherever you throw it, he will stand." This motto is at the origin of the territories under the control of the clan MacLeod (originally from the Scottish island of Lewis ) Islands Hebrides and the Isle of Man from 1266.
