B is the second letter of the Latin alphabet and the first consonant. It is also the capital of handwriting beta of the Greek alphabet and the fifth of the Cyrillic alphabet.

The letter B probably takes its origin from the Proto-Sinaitic alphabet , an alphabet used in the Sinai, there are over 3500 years, itself derived from Egyptian hieroglyphs , the sound, / b /, was then represented by a house.
C. 1500 BC. AD, the second letter of the Phoenician alphabet , often called beth by analogy with the Hebrew alphabet , has a shape that was the basis for successive alphabets which were inspired, like the Greek alphabet. This letter, called beta , following the eye after being hit Phoenician and received a second loop. The letter was then drawn , then when the alphabet became bicameral , in lowercase.
The letter was then forwarded to the Latin alphabet through the Etruscan alphabet , itself derived from the Greek alphabet "red" used in Euboea (see the article History of the Greek alphabet ) - alphabet that Etruscans had learned to Pithekusa (Ischia), near Cumae. Passing into the Latin alphabet, the letters have lost their name to reduce the more often they sound, the Greek Beta was renamed b.
