Celtic League

Celtic League (French Celtic) is a political and cultural movement in Celtic countries: the Ireland , the Scotland , the Wales , the UK , the Cornish and the Isle of Man.

Summary

/ / Objectives

The Celtic League has branches in the Celtic countries of the British Isles and Britain. Its purpose is to promote cooperation between these countries and conducts campaigns in a wide range of political, cultural and environmental. It is fighting against violations of human rights.

The fundamental goal of the Celtic League is to contribute, as an international organization, the struggles of the six Celtic nations to secure or win their political freedom, cultural, social and economic development. This includes:

  • "Stimulation of cooperation between the Celtic peoples.
  • development of consciousness of the report and the special solidarity which must take place between them.
  • make their struggles and accomplishments are well known abroad.
  • campaign for an association of Celtic nations that may arise when two or more of these nations have achieved independence.
  • advocate the use of resources of each of the Celtic countries for the benefit of all its people.
  • Each Celtic nation is conditioned by a different history and therefore we should not expect a uniformity of thought, but we allow under the diversity of expression in the Celtic League. In this way, we can better identify areas of possible cooperation and subsequently formulate a common policy detail. With this program, we can establish that the types of relations between our communities will enable them to appreciate our minds liberties with the individual and the principle of community. "

In other words, the Celtic League is to bring together the various nationalist movements in these six countries. Often, language and cultural organizations play a role. There are some changes in its objectives, which tends to extend to a federation containing the lines of the Nordic Council.

This movement also campaigned for the reunification of Ireland and the return of the department of Loire-Atlantique in Brittany.

Branches

The six main branches are usually referred to by country name in the local Celtic language. Thus, Ireland is known as ire, the Scotland as Alba, Wales Cymru as the UK as Breizh, the Cornwall and Kernow as the Isle of Man as Mannin.

There is also an international arm, and others based in the United States and London. There was a branch in Cape Breton , in Canada , where a Scots-speaking community still exists.

Political Status of Country

The political status of countries is very different. The United Kingdom and especially France are traditionally more centralist state.

Some Celtic countries have achieved some degree of autonomy, although Ireland is still divided into two parts.

  • The Republic of Ireland - Independent
  • The Northern Ireland
  • The Isle of Man is a British crown dependency, which is located outside the United Kingdom and the European Union, it has one of the oldest parliamentary systems in the world.
  • Scotland - got its own Parliament in 1999.
  • Wales - got its own assembly in 1999.

There is also a campaign to also get a Cornish Assembly.

Thus, three nations were the constituent nations of the state of the United Kingdom, in part, and another is a dependency of the British Crown. Brittany is a region of the French Republic, and has only a very limited form of political autonomy.

Magazines

In 1972 , Breton News is named Carn , a common denomination in all the Celtic languages, and became the official organ of the Celtic League. Carn is a quarterly magazine. The articles are written in the six Celtic languages and English. The magazine cover is a representation similar to the map of the six Celtic countries with their names. In the past, articles were published in French. Among the major contributors, there Sorley MacLean , but the quality and accuracy of the articles is highly variable.

The American branch prints its own quarterly newsletter, Six Nations, One Soul, which provides news on events and activities of this branch of Celtic communities in the United States. It also publishes letters from members, and book reviews and Celtic themed music.

Each branch has its own magazine published sporadically.

Controversy internal
