Ch ( lowercase c.) is a digraph of the Latin alphabet composed of a C and a H.

Summary

Linguistics

The digraph "ch" is used by various languages to record different sounds:

Alphabetically

The digraph "ch" is considered a full letter in the alphabets of some languages:

  • alphabets in Czech , Slovak and acinka , between H and I (that is to say after hz);
  • the alphabet in Spanish , it was long ranked among the C and D (that is to say after CZ), but since the 1994 reform, it is ranked between the CG and the latter as if s' acting in two separate letters (see Alphabetically in Spanish ).
  • alphabets in Breton and Chamorro , the digraph is classified among the B and D (those not using the C language only). In both cases, it does not disturb the normal sorting Latin except when used for imported words using the letter C alone (which should normally be transcribed with the letter K, it is not for proper names and many names not translated), and in this case the digraph "ch" can be treated as Spanish.

Computer representation

Unlike other digraphs, there is no encoding of chap as one sign. It is always achieved by placing the letters C and H.
