Cimbrian

The Swiss stone is a Germanic language spoken by the Cimbri , an ethnic group living in the North of Italy in the mountains of Friuli-Venezia Giulia , the South Tyrol and Veneto.

It is related to the Bavarian , a dialect of German , but is isolated from several centuries of Germanic dialects other relatives, including Mochena , or the German Tyrol.

Distribution

The Cimbrian experienced a significant decrease in number of speakers. We went from 20,000 in the sixteenth century to about 2200 today, but there is some language revival in recent years.
