A Deemster (from Old English "Judgement") is a judge on the Isle of Man. The High Court of the Isle of Man is chaired by a Deemster or an appellate judge. The Deemsters have a particular responsibility to enact laws at the Tynwald Day by reading to the crowd, both in English and Manx , the local language. Before 1980 , the Deemsters sat in the Legislative Council of the archipelago.

There are only three Deemsters or full-time judges on Man:

  • The first Deemster (First Deemster and Clerk of the Rolls), which is also a deputy lieutenant-governor
  • The second Deemster (Second Deemster)
