Manx Pound

Manx pound is the currency unit 's main island of Man. Its exchange rate with the pound sterling is strictly 1:1. Manx pound is divided into 100 pence.

History

The Isle of Man has produced coins in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

From 1840 to 1971 , only banknotes specific island existed, but in 1971 , after the decimal monetary system, the circulation of pieces created for the island is introduced. Since 1961 , the Government of the Isle of Man is the only one to have the right to issue currency Manx.

Except on the island, does not trade books Manx and visitors are advised to change money before leaving the territory. However, sometimes the pieces fall in the British circuit, since these parts are identical in shape and size.

Coins

There are differences between Manx and the pound sterling. On the occasion of the introduction of decimal currency system that the British decision was made to strike again parts. The new divisional decimal currency, namely Penny , was then renamed New Penny, as in the United Kingdom :

  • Parts 1 / 2 pence, 1 pence and 2 pence bronze;
  • parts of 5 pence, 10 pence, 20 pence and 50 pence in copper-nickel;
  • coins of 1 pound (1 pound) copper-nickel;
  • Parts 2 pounds (2 pounds) bi-metal.
