Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is one of the Lnder component of Germany on the Baltic Sea. It is also sometimes called French by its official name of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (in German : or more familiarly "Meck-Pomm. Before the reunification , this Land was the northern part of the German Democratic Republic.

The word " Vorpommern ", even if it is very common, can be confusing, since it also refers to the Polish Voivodeship of Western Pomerania , which is close to the Western Pomerania (Vorpommern). It was however added to the term " Mecklenburg "which meant the former Land dissolved in 1952 by East German authorities and was divided into three districts: Neubrandenburg , Schwerin and Rostock. The former Land approximated the present territory without the latter does not correspond exactly to its geographical reality, since the Mecklenburg "proper" that occupied the western two-thirds of its territory.

With 73.07 inhabitants / km , Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the least populous Lnder and the less industrial countries, and keep the unemployment rate the highest in Germany (12.7% in September 2008 Subdivisions

In December 2003, a second administrative reform began and ended later than in October 2009, which will reorganize the Land in 5 boroughs.
