From family Austro-Bavarian , dialects Mochena proceed to the immigration of Germanic groups that took place from the XIII century in the direction of the current Italian province of Trento.
The speakers identified some 2278 residents in 2001 primarily Fierozzo / Vlarotz, Frassilongo / Garait and Pal del Fersina / Palai in Bersntol, municipalities located in the eponymous Valley Mochena or Fersental (German) Bersntol (Mochena), Valle dei Mochena (Italian).
