Modern English

The term refers to modern English usage of contemporary English. From a linguistic point of view, it means the preferred form of English which succeeded the period of Middle English , that is to say, somewhat after the great vowel shift , which was finished well after 1550.

Although differences in vocabulary, the works of the early seventeenth century , as the work of William Shakespeare and the Bible of King Jacques , are considered to be written in modern English, or more precisely in Early Modern English.
