The Mohawk (the Mohawk in French) is a language spoken in Canada and the United States. It is part of the family Iroquoian languages.

The Mohawk is spoken by about 15% of 15 500 Mohawks residing in Quebec , in the Ontario and in the State of New York.

Writing

Before Europeans arrived in America, the Mohawk was written using pictograms. Subsequently, several systems were used, either with the Latin alphabet , or with diacritics. Since 1972, a system common to the different dialects of Mohawk, always based on the Latin alphabet is used.
