National Anthem

A national anthem is usually a song of patriotism, often chosen for official use by the government, although it may also be required by custom. Most countries have adopted a national anthem, which can coexist with other patriotic songs.

The hymns have gained prominence in Europe during the nineteenth century, the oldest national anthem Het Wilhelmus ( Wilhelmus van Nassouwe ), the Dutch national anthem, written between 1568 and 1572 during the War Eighty Years. The Japanese national anthem, Kimi ga yo , dates from the Kamakura era , but the music was added at the beginning of the twentieth century, and it has been regarded as the official national anthem until 1999 Features

The national anthem may be provided in the constitution, enacted by a law passed by the legislature, or simply by tradition. Most national anthems are both hymns and marches. Latin American countries tend to operatic compositions, while a handful of countries use a simple fanfare.

The national anthems are usually sung both in the common language of the country, whether de facto or official. However, the anthem of Pakistan is not in Urdu but in Persian. The national anthem of India is a version of Sanskrit Bengali. States with more than one official language have several versions of their anthem: for example, the Swiss anthem has a version for each of the four national languages ( French , German , Italian , Romansh ). However, the anthem of South Africa is unique in that five of the eleven official languages are used in the same hymn (each language has a stanza). The Spanish anthem, meanwhile, has no lyrics in his anthem, La Marcha Real, although in 2007 a national competition was launched to write .
