"Thai alphabet" in Thai alphabet

The Thai alphabet ( Thai : , ksn Thai) is a alphasyllabaire used to write the Thai language.

It is very similar alphabets Lao ( Laos ) and Khmer ( Cambodia ) without really being identical: the spelling of certain letters and their pronunciation is different.

Table of consonants

There are 44 different letters (including 2 not used now) that represent 21 different sounds-consonants. The consonants are divided into three classes, low, medium and high, which determine the tone of their vowel. Consonants replicated (one sound level) come from backgrounds Sanskrit and Pali and are pronounced identically in Thai, though they are kept to differentiate Thai words homophones. There are also 4 letters consonant-vowel combinations that are not included in the list of 44 consonants, but are given in the table.

To support learning, each consonant is traditionally associated with a typical word in with the original or highlighting. The name of the consonant is formed by associating the vowel gold and recalling the word type. Example: the letter '' (K egg) spelled Khor Khai ( ).

In the table below, the column "Equivalence" offers the closest transcription in Latin script. Many consonants are pronounced differently if they are initial or final consonants of a syllable (ka ak). The first rating of the column "Equivalence" gives value to the initial position, the second for the final position. Sounds consonnaux final word is limited to 'k', 'm', 'n', 'ng', 'p' and 't'.
