A sheading is a territorial subdivision of the first order of the Isle of Man. The six sheadings are divided into 24 districts , four towns, four villages and sixteen parishes.

Sheading the term seems to come from a word of Norse meaning "division ship" each district of the island was in all likelihood, responsible for the production of a number of warships. Another hypothesis would tend to give an origin sheading Celtic and means' sixth part. "

Finally, according to some experts, the form of the name was shedding the sixteenth century. It would be a term derived from English shed (shack, "" shed ").
