The slang is the name of the slang of the English language. Due to the dissemination of it through the whole of the British Empire , the slang has spread throughout the Anglo-Saxon, and is now autonomous regional variants: the United Kingdom , the States United , the Canada , the Australia , the South Africa , etc.. so everyone know their own version of slang.

The origin of the slang term is obscure . Many lexicographers , however, tend to assign an origin purely Scandinavian. From the late nineteenth century , Walter Skeat finds similarities with expressions Norwegian or Swedish ... More recently, Eric Partidge proposed to trace its origin to the past participle of the English verb sling which has roots in the Old and Middle English and the Norse. However, his explanation is far from unanimous.

The definition of slang seems as difficult as its etymology. According to Chambers Dictionary , the term refers to "words and uses outside the standard language, used only very informally, especially in speaking, originally the sociolect thieves and underworld , today ' Today the jargon of any class, occupation or group. "
