Sport In The Isle Of Man

The Isle of Man is a small country. The sport plays an important social role, however, and many Manx athletes gave their island with their talent. The most famous sporting event on Man is the race's annual motorcycle known as the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man.

The Manx practice, however many other sports, the islands being represented at the Commonwealth Games and the Island Games.

This paper proposes a state sports practices on the Isle of Man today.

The Isle of Man will host the 4th Youth Games Commonwealth in 2011. This reduced version of the Commonwealth Games had its first edition in Edinburgh in 2000. The edition of 2004 was held in Bendigo ( Australia ) and that of 2008 is scheduled to Pune ( India ).

Man has also hosted the first edition of the Island Games in 1985 and the ninth edition, 2001. These games are a multi-sport competition organized by the International Island Games Association (IGA) every two years.

Finally, the biggest sporting event of the island, and whose fame is worldwide, is the Tourist Trophy motorcycle race that takes place every year during the first week of June. This race was created in 1907 , celebrating its centenary this year. This circuit is the most dangerous in the world. It caused the death of 220 drivers (racing or testing), if one combines the two competitions that take place: the Tourist Trophy and Manx Grand Prix.

Bike paths Manx

Man has six bike paths that cross the main attractions of the island. They can be detected through appropriate signage. The Manx beauoup use the bicycle and many clubs were formed, bringing together the followers of this means of locomotion that is ideal for an island of small size such as Man. The six tracks on the island are:

1. Track called Douglas. 43 km. Traverse Onchan and Crogga.
2. Track called Castletown. 20 km. Traverse Ballasalla and St Mark's.
3. Track called Port Erin. 23 km. Traverse Port St Mary and allows an extension to the Calf of Man.
4. Track called Peel. 16 km. Through the village of St John's.
5. Track called Ramsey. 26 km. Allows an extension to the point of Ayre.
6. Track called Laxey. 10 km. Allows a detour up the Laxey Wheel (Laxey Wheel).

Mark Cavendish, cycling Manx

Professional cycling also has its followers and the Isle of Man has a cyclist renamed in the person of Mark Cavendish (born 1985 ). The young rider was made known to the general public by winning the Run for the American (a race track ), on the occasion of the World Championships in Los Angeles. Cavendish also won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 , and a scratch race eighty laps at Melbourne the same year. Today he runs for Team High Road and marked the 2008 Tour de France by winning four stage wins. It also marked the great minds at the 2009 Tour de France by winning six stage wins, a record! Today he is considered the fastest sprinter in the world.

Cammag

The cammag , similar to hurling Irish , has virtually disappeared. However, the Manx are trying to revive it.

Rugby

The Isle of Man has many clubs, rugby union taking part in competitions organized by the FA. The best clubs on the island are the Douglas Rugby Club UF, the UF Castletown Rugby Club, the Southern Nomads Rugby Club UF, UF and the Vagabonds Rugby Club.

Football

The football is a very popular sport on the Isle of Man. The Manx football Federation is organizing a soccer league that pits 27 clubs divided into two divisions. There is a national team , although it did not take part in tournaments organized by UEFA and FIFA.

Other sports

  • Basketball : Also played in the archipelago.
  • Chess : The Monarch Assurance International Chess Tournament held in Port Erin each year from September to October.
  • GB : The Game is subject to competition on the island every two years.
