Swaziland, in long form the Kingdom of Swaziland, Swahili and in English and sometimes called Ngwane is a country in southern Africa landlocked by South Africa and bordered by Mozambique. This nation and its people are named after the nineteenth century king Mswati II. Swaziland is a small country, no more than 200 km separates north from south and 130 km between the east and west. The western part of the country is mountainous, it descends to the east, where the altitude is less important. The eastern boundary is distinguished through the mountains Lebombo. The climate is temperate enough to the west, but it reaches 40 to the east in summer. This country is hit by heavy rainfall, especially in summer, which can reach 2 m west of the country. The territory currently occupied Swaziland has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Nowadays, almost all the inhabitants belong to ethnic Swazis , whose language is siSwazi , although English is the second language spoken.

Although remnants of occupation by humans dating back over 100,000 years have been found in Swaziland, the current population emigrated to the nineteenth century , following the migration of peoples Bantu and under pressure from the Boers engaged with the Zulus. At the same time, the first white men began to colonize the area.

After the Second Boer War , Swaziland became a British colony. Independence was granted in the country on 6 September 1968. Since then, political life in Swaziland between the supporters of a democratic system to those of an absolute monarchy.

The current constitution bans political parties.

On 18 August 2004 , King Mswati III announced that the country would change its constitution. Organizations defending human rights and opposition groups denounced the proposed draft constitution, since it continued to ban political parties and strengthened the powers of the King. Despite resistance from opposition groups, the Swaziland's new constitution was ratified by the King on 26 July 2005 and came into force on 8 February 2006. The country remains an absolute monarchy. Political parties are seen merely as "associations" and the Supreme Court can not judge cases which may involve the monarchy.

Swaziland offers a wide variety of landscapes: mountains along the border with Mozambique, and savannahs in the east and rainforest in the northwest. Several rivers cross the country, as Lusutfu. Swaziland has no access to the sea

Its highest point is Mount Emlembe , north-west, near Piggs Peak.

With 95,000 inhabitants, the capital Mbabane is the largest city in the country, other important cities are Manzini , Lobamba and Siteki.

Economy

Swaziland's economy is characterized by a very heavy unemployment rate of 34% is the 170 th worldwide in 2004. Exports represent an inflow of money from more than 900 million does not cover the cost of imports, which account for more than a billion dollars. The trade balance shows a deficit of 72 million. Swaziland is the country of the world where life expectancy is lower (31.88 years in 2009 ), mainly because it is the country of the world where the prevalence rate among adults of HIV / AIDS is the highest, with 26.1% . Swaziland is one of the few countries whose population is declining.

Swaziland has the 27th highest rate of infant mortality in the world (68.63 per thousand) .
