It rises in the Beskid Western High Silesia to 1106 m above sea level and covers 1047 km through Poland before emptying into the Baltic Sea near Gdansk. The average annual flow is at the mouth of 1054 m / s

The river can be divided into three sections:

  • the headwaters, the source Sandomierz where he received the San , a tributary of the right bank;
  • the average, at the confluence of Sandomierz with Narew magnified the Bug , major tributaries of the right bank;
  • the lower reaches of the confluence with the Narew at the mouth by a delta in the Bay of Gdansk. The delta of the Vistula River has undergone major changes in its route during historical times.

Watershed

The watershed of the Vistula covers 194,424 square kilometers which represents over 60% of all Poland and throughout the eastern part (the rest of the country is mainly drained by the Oder (Odra in Polish). The point above the basin is located in the Tatras, at 2663 m altitude, and its average altitude is 270 m. However, 55% of the area lies at altitudes between 100 and 200 m and even, 75 % between 100 m and 300 m. The basin is highly asymmetrical, greater part lying east of the River.
