Charles I was in turn, intransigent, and indecisive. He did not learn the lessons his father had tried to teach him. He estranged himself from the Scottish Court, surrounded himself with Catholic sympathisers, and tried to be an autocratic ruler with the English Parliament. His Governor in Ireland managed a feat that was not repeated until the 1990s. Catholic and Protestant Irishmen united against him. In 1638 he had to suppress rebellion in Ireland, after that came problems with the Covenanters in Scotland, and finally in 1642 a full scale Civil War, declared on Parliament by the King when he raised his standard on a wet Sunday afternoon in August.

yh he was quite bad he made quite a lot of taxes. he didnt use parliment to help him either which isnt good. even though he was protestant he married a french catholic called Henrietta Maria. parliment refused to let charles have a tax called custom duties for life, he ignored them and started collecting it anyway. in 1629 charles dissolved parliment. he decided to rule england for the next eleven years without parliment.
