Y (pronounced "Greek i") is the 25thletter of the alphabet today.
The grapheme letter is the same as that of the upsilon ( in uppercase , lowercase ) of the Greek alphabet.

It is both a vowel ( / i / , as in cycle) and a semi-vowel ( / d / , as in "eyes"). The is the only vowel in the alphabet in French do not support one of the three accents (acute, grave, circumflex), but it is not free from combining as it can be topped with a dieresis. It may have some words in the equivalent of two i, as in Savoy (Savoie-iard).
